Strictly Come Dancing's Debbie McGee: 'The show has saved me from grief'
DEBBIE McGee says Strictly has saved her from the depths of grief.
The TV favourite, 59, hit rock bottom after husband Paul died in March last year.
She told the Daily Star Sunday: “When Paul died I just completely lost my sparkle. I laughed but I wasn’t happy.
"I could never have done Strictly last year. I was still very upset and feeling much weaker as a person.
“But I’ve gone through 18 months of grief now. I did some other jobs that slowly got me back to being Debbie and now I feel much better.”
Debbie has had messages from other women who have lost their husbands and added: “People are saying, ‘We’d been sitting at home crying but now we’ve realised life goes on and we’ve started going to the gym’.”
Debbie and pro partner Giovanni Pernice have topped the leader board more than any other couple so far this series but Debbie said: “Anyone can be in that dance-off – we never take anything for granted."
